ABOUT MAVENS ARTISTS

Jonathan Byrd and the Pickup Cowboy

Jonathan Byrd is a preacher's son, a Gulf War veteran, and an award-winning songwriter from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, known for literary, outsider songs that have become campfire favorites. The Chicago Tribune called Byrd "one of the top 50 songwriters of the past 50 years."

Jonathan Byrd and The Pickup Cowboy are musical gunslingers, vaudevillian hucksters, and old-fashioned tent revivalists. Between heartbreaking ballads and hell-raising sing-alongs, the Cowboys entertain and get audiences involved in the show.

Corin Raymond

Toronto songwriter Corin Raymond’s love of words began in the car with his father, driving the endless jack-pined distances of Northern Ontario. His father would tell Corin Greek myths to pass the time, and for Corin, this began a lifelong love affair with words and stories that set him on the path to becoming an acclaimed songwriter and a student of songcraft. Corin has traveled the length and breadth of Canada and across the globe, and his songs are being covered by many artists. With Corin’s 2016 JUNO nominated album, Hobo Jungle Fever Dreams, he created his finest collection yet.

Kaia Kater

Few are more conscious in their journey through Appalachian histories and the Canadian musical landscape than Kaia. Born in Montreal, Kaia has lived Winnipeg, Wakefield and, most recently, West Virginia, she now resides in Toronto. Her old-time banjo-picking skills, deft arrangements, and songwriting abilities have landed her in the spotlight in North America and the UK, garnering critical acclaim from outlets such as Rolling Stone, CBC Music and The Roots Music Report.  Often praised for her capacity to sound new and old at once, Kaia anchors her music the space where tradition and innovation intersect.

Ryan Cook

Blending the nostalgia of classic country music with modern sensibility, Ryan Cook has developed a progressive sound that fuses both the traditional and the innovative. Drawing on the enduring sounds of western-swing, bluegrass, country, and folk, Ryan’s songbook is a deeply appreciative homage to the pioneers of hillbilly and folk. Ryan has toured heavily as a solo performer opening for Country legends including Dwight Yoakam, Rosanne Cash, and Travis Tritt. His acoustic, live show combines thumb-picking guitar styles, original folk ballads, and vintage Country music from the 1940’s and ‘50’s.
